Love and Family: The Ceramic Relief Tiles of Israeli Artist Ruth Faktor Enjoy more than 150 ceramics which I recently selected while visiting Ruth Faktor at her studio near Tel Aviv, Israel. These are the very best of her designs, brand new, in perfect condition and just received here at Saper Galleries in downtown East Lansing, Michigan. As you will see by viewing the photos below, the images are reflective of the sharing and love that binds friends and families together. You will also enjoy her village scenes and the depictions of musical elements in several of her ceramics. Many select Ruth's tiles for the smaller wall spaces in their homes. Others acquire a large selection of her tiles and display them in an arrangement on larger walls. I have a set of four horizontal ones on a long wall in my house. Some install them in kitchens and bathrooms which are normally not the best environments for artwork but these survive well even in environments with high humidity. Each has a hanging loop on the back so they are ready for hanging on the wall with a picture hook that we will give you. Who is Ruth Faktor? The artist was born in Ramat-Gan, Israel in 1937. She studied ceramics with Israeli's leading sculptor, A. Doctor and Z. Guri, a noted ceramist in Israel. From 1973 to 1977 Ruth studied at the Ramat-Gan Art School where she specialized in sculpture and modern art. Her home is decorated with modern art works and many ceramic sculptures, most by her daughter, also a noted artist. I enjoyed visiting with Ruth's daughter and husband while at her studio and home. As you can see from the photos and in visiting Saper Galleries, Ruth's ceramics range in size from very small reliefs to larger sizes used for building ornaments. They are made of brown earthen clay, molded, sculpted to the finished design and then bisque-fired at 900 degrees centigrade. After they are slowly cooled, the ceramics are then hand-painted with Ruth's unique glazes and fired a second time to 1,050 degrees centigrade. A beauty of Ruth's ceramic tiles is in the many textures and finishes that each piece displays. In addition to the themes of family and friendship, she also depicts ancient Israeli cities in her artwork, including Jerusalem (to the east of her studio), Jaffa (south of Tel Aviv), and Casearea (north on the Mediterranean coast). Many hundreds of visitors to Saper Galleries have acquired the bas-relief wall tiles created by Ruth Faktor since we built our present gallery building in 1986 and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do. And yes, we can ship them to you no matter where in the world you live or work. Just phone us toll free or e-mail us now to confirm availability! Thank you for visiting and viewing the ceramic tiles of Israeli Ruth Faktor! ~ Roy Saper
