David McDermott and Yukimi Matsumoto

David's journey in glassblowing began in 1973 under the tutelage of Master Gaffer Robert Mason from Scotland. Learning in the tradition of countless generation of Scottish Masters, David gained skills that compliment his natural artistic talent. From the early basic steps to today's ability to create complex pieces, David has cherished the challenges glassblowing offers. He has been commissioned to create glass works for six U.S. presidents, Pope John Paul II, Empress of Japan, Bank of Scotland, Henry Kissinger, and Ladies Professional Golf. His glass is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, and the Corning Museum of Glass.

Yukimi was born in Osaka Japan in 1973 and graduated at Osaka Designer School specializing in Production Design. She worked at Suwa Glass Studio in Nagano, and after two years of apprenticing, went to work at various studios in Japan, then deciding to attend The Studio at Corning, New York in 1999. Shortly thereafter, she started work with David at Pairpoint Crystal in Massachusetts. David and Yukimi started McDermott Glass Studio in 2002. Yukimi's impeccable color selection and soft design are second to none. She enjoys working with colors which creates the feeling of nature.
