late 2009 I visited Belo Horizonte, Brazil where I was asked by the
Brazilian government to present a program to artists about exporting
their artwork to the United States. During my visit I attended an art exposition where I found the paintings of Lisana Ratti and was attracted to them for a number of reasons including their depiction of the people of Brazil with an acknowledgment of their roots from Africa. In these vegetable sisal paintings she depicts African figures and symbols which made their way into the Brazil that she now calls home. I hope you enjoy their color, brilliance, and imagery as much as I do! ~ Roy Saper Artist
